If you've never been to Paris, you might think it's like any other major European city - but it's so much better for photographers. Almost everything in the city looks like a postcard. The large boulevards and public spaces created by Baron Haussmann in the nineteenth century lend themselves to being photographed as sweeping vistas, while the charming wrought iron and occasional glimpses of the medieval city provide unlimited opportunities for closeup studies. There are barely any modern buildings in the city itself (they're all out to the west at La Defence) so any high point will give you beautiful vistas of the city.
Finding Inspiration in The City of Love
I'm afraid it's not true that everyone in Paris looks like they've stepped off the front cover of Vogue. However, the city does have a chic elegance and the cafe culture does provide a setting where a photographic flâneur (someone who strolls and is curious as to their surroundings!) can capture some incredible moments if they spend some time looking and waiting. But the last few years in Paris, like the UK, have seen people become increasingly concerned about privacy and photography. It could be beneficial to swot up on some polite apologies before having a go at street photography.
