For example, I see the clean lines and simplicity of some modern architecture and how the structure can 'play' with light and shadow. For me it is a bit like street photography; the more you understand the human character, the more you can capture the moments that are important." Whenever possible Sergio takes his wife, Fleur, (his toughest critic) on short city breaks across Europe as part of his mission to capture 'moments' of great buildings. His SICIP

Fellowship panel includes work shot in Valencia, Paris, London and Venice - and his innate sensitivity is evident in a number of his photographs; a small bird by a row of vast stone columns; a fragile human in awe of a huge array of stone statuary.

"I always see a play there," he says. "It's not just about the massive versus the fragile. It's more about the interaction of the architecture with its own surroundings - which of course includes humans. I am inspired by the power play that exists between nature and humankind. Humans try to alter or destroy nature and nature then tries to restore its superiority. Decay is part of the act of nature retaking its territory - trying to regain control over what has been done to it. And of course my images are part of this process. Eventually they too will decay. It's all interrelated."

And of his Society of International, Commercial and Industrial Photographers' Fellowship gain?

"I am thrilled. Just thrilled," he confesses. "It's a great morale booster and I am very proud indeed of this achievement. Now I want to try and give something back to photography through my seminars and other tutoring. I am really looking forward to speaking at The Convention."
