Congratulations to Chris Duncan with this image entitled 'Bir-Hakeim'. Chris from Clichy, France has won 12 month's digital membership to The Society of International Commercial and Industrial Photographers.
Chris gives us some
information on his winning image ''About the image. I'm British and living
in Paris, only until last week. Now I'm living in Strasbourg. Whilst staying in
Paris, I tried to resist temptation to photograph the famous landmarks, as there
are so many more interesting hidden gems to photograph instead! I'm largely an
amateur street photographer, but I have also dabbled in landscape, architecture
and portraiture too. It was during a scouting mission for a fashion shoot that I
came across this composition. I had imagined a dark and textured sky would
complement the industrial feel of the Bir-Hakeim bridge and the Effiel Tower, so
when the rains arrived, I ran to the location, some what late in the afternoon.
Using a Nikon D7200 and Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm (15mm equivalent), sat on a well
battered Manfrotto tripod, I timed my shot to get a strong composition of the
bridge and tower admist the tourists and vehicles. I used an excessively large
fstop of f22 at ISO 100 to get the longest exposure possible to ensure the
underside of the bridge was exposed correctly and any movement within the frame
was blurred. The resulting image even in RAW, was arresting, enhanced by the
strong reflections from the wet tarmac. The conversion to black and white is
something I take very seriously, so after some work in Photoshop, I was finally
happy with the emotion of the image.''
