The High Dynamic Range Image (HDRI is a 360-degree capture of all available light in the location. The image is usually 26 f-stops in dynamic range and 'wraps' around the CAD scene as shown in this sequence

The position of the sun and other bright objects act as lights in the CG scene and provide location matched lighting
