Another outfit that does it all for the photographer and which has previously been flagged up in these pages is York-based Phosys, offering website design, online proofing and e-commerce packages. Like certain rivals there's the choice of a completely bespoke website design - which is what the service is currently majoring in - or a range of pre-designed templates.

A unique custom-built website starts from a very reasonable £500 + VAT, with optional £10 per month site hosting or £100 per year. For anyone with an existing website who would like to bolt on a proofing and sales facility, the charge is £20 + VAT per month. Phosys make the point that since web design is their trade, even if you can't find an option that fits in their structured packages, they will be able to tailor a solution to suit.

The alternative if money is tight is the 'Classic Template' package via Phosys.com which costs as little as £25 + VAT per month with a 12 month minimum term, with most people apparently going for the more expansive 'Classic Professional' package for £35 + VAT. There's a slight discount if paying for 12 months in one go.

Online Picture Proof

Lastly, an additional option comes in the shape of OnlinePictureProof.com. Each of its accounts offers photographers a completely editable website, online picture proofing and sales solution. Keeping things simple, it operates a one plan, one price structure of £20 + VAT per month, and claims to have thousands of photographers from around the world using its system.

Among the key features of 'OPP' is the ability to upload hundreds of images with a single click, no time limit on online galleries meaning that they never 'expire', the ability to upload an album and begin selling within 15 minutes, plus a card-based marketing feature to bring new customers to you.

Wedding, commercial and portrait photographer Bill Bowman for one is happy to sing OPP's praises. "I have undoubtedly got several thousand pounds' worth of orders this year that I would not have got without being online," he raves. "The OPP system is simple to use and uploads are lightning fast."

The package comes with a free professional-look website, or photographers can seamlessly integrate the proofing and sales aspect of OPP with an existing site. As with competing options a no-obligation free trial is offered, here with a 30-day duration and without the need for credit card details to be submitted.
