Tracking trampolinists is difficult at the best of times, but the focal length provided enough background separation and the ability to trim the field of view so as to maximise the number of shots in which the gymnasts were not de-limbed or decapitated. Of 39 frames, shot as singletons (ie not motor drive bursts), the camera-lens combination managed 26 in-focus shots. Generally the sharpness was sufficient to make out the stitching in the girls' leotards, composition was another matter with the twists and turns creating both good and bad body shapes!

The shot of Chris Boardman carrying the Oympic Torch was grabbed through a crowd of people at 15m range. The tactics of getting a clean shot under these circumstances would make an interesting article in its own right! Certainly climbing onto a low wall (about 15 inches) behind the crowd did not give enough elevation, a step ladder would have been perfect until it came to getting it home on the underground with the other 10,000 returning watchers - getting there by car would not have been possible in the time available.
