Initially the idea was to bag a spot on the roadside and use the zoom to collect a series of shots. In the event, the crowd invaded the road at the last minute, making a clean shot impossible at any focal length other than holding a wide angle lens over the heads and hoping (this would not have tested the Sigma which was part of the reason for being there at all!) The stabilisation came into its own with having to hang from the railings while shooting
