RAM
RAM was always a topic of intense discussion in the days when 16MB was considered a bit racy! Today it is as cheap as chips and we elected to push up from 16GB to 32GB to give some headroom in the occasional very large files we handle for wall paper panoramas (the record is more than a 27GB file). There will be a time payload on shut down (possibly) but we can live with this.
Storage Drives
Here at Imagemaker we differ from the average user in that we have to keep large legacy folders of files and regularly access them. So instead of demountable USB drives we have a sophisticated two-location RAIDED system (which cost more than this entire computer btw!). That being the case, we wanted easy-access local storage for about 12 months of magazines and some current photo projects. To keep the access speed up to scratch we chose a hybrid SSD.
