The Results
Gratifyingly the results between the monitors follow the general trend that you get what you pay for, the higher-end monitors are demonstrably superior in most departments. This was also true for our rather old Neovo F419; it looked rather grubby in comparison to its newer cousins both statistically and by the general look of the images. The statistics indeed rather flattered the F-419.

The audit statistics are tabled:
Although some of the figures place the MultiSync 221W as better than the Reference 271, the overall performance on the IT8/7.4 was much superior. Also the MS221W was more variable during the testing, a warning of changing luminance was flagged by the test software. One feature of the Reference 271 we cannot put a definitive number on - the image visual quality and text rendering was outstanding, certainly the best we have seen on any LCD monitor.
Comparing the two Fogra Class A monitors does not really put any distance between them, both passed the certification standard easily. Any numerical differences are trivial other than the 17% difference in the gamut volume
The CG243W showed slightly less variance in luminance across the screen as shown by the matrix. All values are percentages of the central reading (100%), the Reference 271 values are in black, the CG 243W are in red. All are within the tolerance required for Fogra certification.
