Should you choose, you can now go back and repeat the process for say images at 180ppi (and calling the
action '180-inkjet' but keep it in the Pre-print Sharpening set). A radius of 0.4 would be a good starting point
with the other parameters kept the same. If experience teaches you that your preference requires something
different by all means re-record using those settings - the idea is to make the application fast, simple, and
repeatable.
The downside of this technique is that the 'masking' function of ACR is no longer available. For simple
portraiture and wedding album shots it may be a better workflow to apply higher Detail values (in ACR) and
dispense with this High Pass sharpening altogether.
OVERALL (so far!)
Looking through the 500 pages
of the manual only serves to
emphasise just how little of
the D810's capabilities we
have discussed here. Live View,
D-Lighting, Video, Time Lapse,
Virtual Horizon - these are just
a few of the things we have
passed by without comment.
However, we cannot fill the entire
Imagemaker with one review so
these things will have to dribble
out as the camera is used for
day-to-day tasks in the upcoming
months and years! For the
present, the camera seems full of
good features and the only issue
we have noted is the general
slowing down of the systems as
they handle the huge files that
the 810 delivers - thus far we
have not had the courage to
shoot with the lower resolution
settings that are available, it
seems like sacrilege!
