Lighting set-up for watch photograph. Four LED lamps and four simple pieces of tracing paper creating a bespoke mini light tent!

Now you may think the word 'professional' is said in jest, and I suppose it is a little tongue in cheek. However, it is a means to an end; and I charge no less for using this system than my main studio track lighting system that cost many thousands. In fact clients come to me 'specifically' for the unique style that I have when photographing small products. This is not by accident, but by design and can just as easily be attributed to my choice of lighting as to my 'vision' as a photographer!

As you can see from the images on these pages, 'cheap and small' doesn't have to mean 'rubbish and unprofessional'.

So why 'these' lights?

Well I will be honest and say I have tried literally dozens, with varying levels of success. The ones you see here aren't perfect (as they have no dimmer facility) however, they are as close as I have come to perfection... as yet!

Their main attribute for me is the 'gooseneck' design. The ability to bend them to wherever I choose, coupled with the clamp-style base so they can 'hang' off almost anything. This, however, is only half the story. The light quality is consistent across the full beam spread and needs little colour correction. Also being LED they don't have heat build-up and their design allows for easy DIY light modifiers to be created for specific tasks.
